Connect Gmail.
Bring email into the ask.

An email thread already contains the background for the next reply. Connect Gmail to Geniusly so you can ask for that context, a concise summary, or a follow-up draft from Slack.

Before you connect Gmail to an agent

First decide what you want the agent to do with email. Finding a conversation, summarizing an exchange, and drafting a reply are different from sending messages or changing inbox settings. Choose a first task you can check against the original thread.

This guide covers the Gmail connection in Geniusly. Start by signing up on this site and adding Geniusly to your Slack workspace. If your workspace restricts app installation, an administrator may need to approve it.

Use the Google account that holds the email you intend to work with. A work account may have organization restrictions on third-party connections. If Google blocks the connection, check with your administrator rather than trying to bypass the restriction.

How to connect Gmail to Geniusly

  1. Open a private DM with Geniusly in Slack. Account connections are set up in a direct message, not a shared client or team channel.
  2. Ask to connect your account. Send Connect my Gmail. Geniusly will guide you to the account authorization link.
  3. Choose your Google account and review the request. Check the app and requested permissions before authorizing. Enter Google sign-in information only in Google's sign-in flow; do not paste passwords into Slack.
  4. Return to the Geniusly conversation. Ask Geniusly to check whether your Gmail connection is available. An authorization page opening is not by itself proof that the connection finished.
  5. Try one small request. Name a known conversation and ask for a short summary. Check that the answer refers to the intended account and thread.

Google explains how to review a third-party app's access request and manage linked apps in its account help center.

Useful first requests for connected email

Find the context
Find the email conversation with Acme about the launch brief from this week. Summarize what we agreed, what is still open, and any dates mentioned. Include references to the source messages.

Replace the example client and date range with your own.

Prepare the next reply
Using that conversation, write a short follow-up asking for the missing assets. Keep the tone friendly. Do not invent a deadline or promise a delivery date. Return the draft here for review.

This prepares text in the conversation; it does not send an email or create a saved Gmail draft.

A useful request names a sender, subject, date range, or other detail that distinguishes the thread. If several conversations fit, ask Geniusly to show the candidates before it uses one to draft a reply.

If the connection or result is wrong

The authorization did not finish

Return to the private Slack chat and check the connection state. If it is not connected, request a new connection link and use the intended Google account. If an organization policy blocks access, resolve that with your Google Workspace administrator.

The assistant found the wrong conversation

Add the sender, a distinctive phrase from the subject, and a date range. Ask for source references and compare them with Gmail before relying on the summary.

You want to remove access

Review your Google Account connections and remove the relevant connection if you no longer want it to access your account. Removing access prevents future authorized reads through that connection; it does not itself delete information already returned in a conversation.

Geniusly's connected-app operations are currently read-only. Email sending, inbox changes, and writing saved drafts into Gmail are not enabled. You can use prepared text in Gmail after reviewing it.

Questions & answers

Can I connect Gmail without using Slack?

The current Geniusly setup starts in Slack. Connect Gmail in a private Geniusly DM. After you link a phone channel, you can also ask from WhatsApp or text using that workspace.

Does signing up connect my Gmail automatically?

No. Website signup, Slack installation, and Gmail authorization are separate steps. You choose the account and authorize the connection explicitly.

Will Geniusly send a follow-up email?

Not in the current release. It can read authorized email context and prepare reply text in your Geniusly conversation. You review and send that text yourself.

Can I use Google Drive too?

Yes. Google Drive is a separate supported connection. Connect it when a task also needs a brief or document; linking Gmail alone does not authorize Drive.
